Todays story is called:
"Moses and the Rock That Gave Water".
Bible Passage:
Exodus 17:1-7.
I am Moses, and I have another story to share with you. This one happened when the Israelites were wandering in the desert, and they were really thirsty. God had done so many amazing things for us, but sometimes, the people still didn’t trust Him. One day, God told me to do something that seemed strange—to tap a rock with my staff so that water would come out. You might think, “How can water come from a rock?” Well, let me tell you what happened.
After we had left Egypt, the journey through the desert was long and hard. It was hot, dry, and the sun blazed down on us every day. We didn’t have much food or water, and we were always moving from one place to another. But even though God had provided for us in the past, the people began to grumble. They were thirsty, and they were upset.
“Why did you bring us out of Egypt just to die of thirst?” they complained.
“Why did you bring us here, Moses?”
I could feel their frustration. It hurt to hear them complain. We had already seen so many miracles—God had parted the Red Sea, given us manna from heaven to eat, and led us with a cloud by day and fire by night. But still, they doubted.
I went to God, and I prayed. “Lord, what should I do? The people are thirsty, and they are angry. How can we find water in this desert?” God answered me, saying, “Go to the rock in front of the people. Take your staff, the one with which you struck the Nile, and speak to the rock. Water will come out of it for the people to drink.”
I was amazed.
A rock?
Water would come out of a rock?
But I knew that God could do anything, and if He said it would happen, it would.
I took my staff, and I called the people together.
“Listen, you defiant people!” I said.
“You’ve been complaining, but today you will see that God will provide for you.”
I struck the rock once with my staff, but nothing happened. I felt a little nervous. I thought, “God said to speak to the rock, not strike it.” Then, I remembered His words and realized my mistake. I was supposed to speak to the rock, not hit it like I did before when God made water come from the rock.
I raised my staff again, this time carefully following what God had told me. And when I spoke to the rock, something amazing happened—water began to flow from the rock! It wasn’t just a little bit, but a big stream of water, enough for everyone to drink—millions of people and all their animals.
So, what have we learned from todays story?
Looking back, I realized that this moment taught me something important. Even though I was frustrated and tired, I needed to listen carefully to what God said. The first time, I did things my way, not God’s way, and it didn’t work. But when I trusted God’s instructions and followed them exactly, His power was shown, and the people were provided for.
I also learned that when God tells us to do something, even if it seems strange or impossible, we can trust Him. After all, He is the God who can make water come from a rock!
So, how can we apply what we've learned to our life?
(1). Listen to God!:
Sometimes, we think we know the best way to do things, but God’s way is always the best. When we listen to Him, great things can happen.
(2). Trust God’s Power!:
God can do anything, even the impossible. If He tells us He will do something, we can trust Him to make it happen.
(3). Obey God’s Instructions!:
When we obey God’s instructions, we can see His miracles. He has a plan for us, and if we follow it, He will take care of us.
That was my story—the day I tapped the rock and saw God provide water for the Israelites. I hope you remember that God is always ready to help us, just like He helped the Israelites in the desert!
Let us pray.
Dear God, thank You for always providing for us. Help us to listen to You and trust You, even when things seem impossible. Thank You for showing us Your power and love every day. Please help us to obey You and follow Your plan for our lives. In Jesus'name we pray. Amen.
Thank you for listening.
May God bless you!
